India ranks 2nd in global aquaculture production with a size of around USD11bn contributing to India’s GDP.
The industry is among major contributors to foreign exchange and shrimps accounts for major chunk of aquaculture market (~70%) in value terms to total exports.
India’s potential for shrimp production is enormous with 8,129 km coastline and 1.2 million hectares of brackish water. Surprisingly, only around 10% to 12% currently in use.
